How the Gift Cards work

After checkout
Shopify immediately emails the digital gift card to either-the purchaser, who can forward or print it, or the recipient, if the purchaser enters their email during checkout.
Redemption: 
The recipient can enter the code in the discount/gift-card field at checkout. Shopify automatically deducts the amount from the order total.
Balance Tracking: 
If the recipient doesn’t use the full amount, Shopify keeps track of the remaining balance automatically.They’ll see it in the same email link, and it’s reusable until the balance is $0.
Expiration: 
By default, Shopify gift cards do not expire
